Religious fanaticism PDF Print E-mail
Côn.José Everaldo

isis-iraq-end-of-christianity-in-middle-east-persecutionOn April 18, 2014 Sister raghid, former headmistress of the Greek-Catholic Patriarchate in Damascus, Vatican Radio reported that in Syria, parents in the civil war, many Christians who refused to profess the Muslim faith or pay ransom were crucified by jihadists. This happened on Open in the industrial area on the outskirts of Damascus. According to the complaint, after the crucifixion jihadists "took the victims' heads and played soccer with them," and even took the babies of women and "hung in the trees with their umbilical cords".

cristaoiraque01Faced with the horror of this appalling news I thought of writing on the topic of religious fanaticism, which is not a phenomenon of the east, but it is a phenomenon that is very close to us.

Religious fanaticism is always irrational and unfounded. It is an exaggerated belief, blind to a worldview or doctrinal unilateralism, so that the fanatical identifies their belief with absolute truth and feels like the true owner of the membership. Worse, considers his enemy all those who do not share their faith. The fanatic explores the exotic, extravagant, the unusual world. Fanaticism separates people, despising others as heretics and infidels unworthy.

cristaoiraque02The Religious Fanaticism leads the individual the greatest human atrocities. Because he is intolerant, that is, it is clear his inability to respect the freedom of choice of the other. We can not throw stones at the Muslims, because in the past Christians were capable of the worst atrocities in the name of their faith. We have a dirty past, because the holy wars were stimulated by Catholic leaders, what not to say the Inquisition and the Crusades? In the past were Christians and Muslims are present.

One of the most common complaints made to religions is that they cause more violence than peace. In the song "Imagine" John Lennon says between the lines that the world would be a better place without them and their rivalries. cristaoiraque03Worldwide rationalistic culture tired of hearing the following accusation: "The Bible is the book of concord and not discord." Not only the Bible, but other sacred books as the Bhagavad-Gita, Tri-Pitakas, Qur'an and Kitab-i-Aqdas. However, if we add all these books blindly everyone, absolutely everyone, exalt love, brotherhood, balance, harmony among men.

We got the hard, raw reality, the atrocities caused by religious fanatics do not come from religious teachings, but sick minds that instrumentalize religious concepts as a means of escaping the savagery of his bowels.

ASSUMPTION OF OUR LADY PDF Print E-mail

Our Lady 41ª Reading:  Will 11,19a; 12,1.3-6a.10ab

A mother in heaven

Today we celebrate an inseparable truth of the Christian faith: the Assumption body and soul into heaven. Our Lady was preserved, protected by God from all sin, immune from all stain of original sin from birth. In her God put enmity with sin (Gen. 3:15). So, Mary, Full of Grace, (Luke 1:28), could not be subject to the corruption of death, sin. So all of us, the Church, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary, body and soul, into heaven, and see the Assumption of the Mother of Jesus and our Mother, the foreshadowing of the glory of the Church.

The 1st reading  today from the Book of Revelation, begins talking about the "Temple of God" and the "Ark of the Covenant." The "Temple of God" and the "Ark of the Covenant," are figures of the Virgin Mary. Our Lady was the living tabernacle of the Holy Spirit, full of grace, where God made his dwelling, the incarnation of God the Son, Jesus Christ. Mary is the temple, the Ark of the Covenant, where God's Word, "The Word became flesh" (Jn 1:14), becoming the mother of the incarnate Word. This "Ark of the Covenant" had to be without sin, without blemish. Just go through the pages of the Old Testament to see that God does not dwell in the midst of sin.

seminar from MacedoniaToday was a day of celebrations in Maceio Seminar. We learned a lot looking at her, the image of Our Lady, with her arms high alevantados. The chapel is small but housed many people for over 100 years. Ali, while memory can go, I will remember all those who have signed their ideals. Are so many and so different, that a gigantic panel could be exposed to introduce them to modern times. Is joined to them, with great care, the grouping of former seminarians who, in Alagoas, gathers to celebrate and remember old times lived in that house from the High Jacutinga. Were times of strong memories of grateful experiences of many personal and historical references.

Jesus as the fullness of God's compassion

Today's Gospel presents Jesus as the fullness of God's compassion in our midst. Multiplying the loaves, he makes it plainly what Moses and Elijah, the same characters of the Transfiguration, representatives of the Law and the Prophets, had already done: Moses fed the people in the desert; Elijah contended with the widow of Zarephath food during the whole time of drought in Israel. Now Jesus is the one who feeds us in fullness, is the promised Messiah of Israel and humanity. As the Good Shepherd Psalm that speaks, he does his flock resting in fresh grass over it and prepares a table. Their food is not limited to bread. First feeds us because we feel compassion, our poverty and destitution: "He saw a large crowd. Filled with compassion for them and healed their sick. " More than bread, is of love, of tenderness and compassion that the Lord feeds us!

A PILOT OF PEACE IN WAR PDF Print E-mail
Pe. Manoel Henrique

Little PrinceOn July 31, 1944, is 70 years, after the world learned of the death of a pilot shot down over peace sea by a German fighter when he was only 40 years old. I speak of the author of "The Little Prince", Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Was born in Lyon, France, a city that constantly visited, to address ourselves in the various comings and goings, to Grenoble, a city of our PhD through Cesmac. The Library of Lyon airport, moreover, with his name, were always an inviting showcase for not forgetting the author of "The Little Prince" not only, but of many other texts, like: A meaning to life , Pilot War Letters of the Little Prince, Terre des Hommes, South Mail, Night Flight. I remember him man when several other pilots are currently in their modern aircraft, as pilots of death, wars declared or not. I think the pilot, that following orders, cowardly and criminally threw the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Valeu her late repentance, becoming religious. I remember the downed pilots shamefully in Russia and Asia, with the aircraft of the same company. Our Alberto Santos Dumont, after their successful experiences, under the sky of Paris, died sadly, to learn the use of his invention in the 2nd World War.
